Anna Castelli Ferrieri
Designer
Anna Castelli Ferrieri (1918–2006) was a pioneering Italian architect and industrial designer, best known as one of the first female graduates from the Politecnico di Milano and as a co-founder of Kartell, the iconic design brand that helped revolutionize plastic furniture in the 20th century. Her work combined rationalist architecture with innovative material use, particularly in injection-molded plastic.
In 1969, Ferrieri introduced the Componibili modular storage system, a groundbreaking design that embodied both form and function. Made of ABS plastic and featuring sleek, cylindrical compartments with sliding doors, the Componibili was created for flexibility in modern homes—stackable, durable, and visually minimal. It became one of Kartell’s most enduring pieces, showcased in major design museums such as MoMA and the Centre Pompidou.
